As a professional technician I have seen a lot of poor preparations and installations in multiple cities across Ontario. Being trained by one of the largest companies and working with some other awesome technicians, I take what I’ve learned and seen seriously. We have come across and fixed allot of poor installations that other company’s don’t want to warranty. They would have the installation times figured down to the minute, but we would never take any shortcuts while doing the job in our shop then.

Most don’t understand the importance of how the windshield effects the safety of your vehicle. The glass and the glue combined together with the rigid pinchweld can make up to 30% of the structure of the roof. If a technician skips or simply forgets a step it could damage the vehicle, cause leak, or even be life altering for the occupants. The passenger side air bag also uses the windshield to deploy off of in a crash, with a deployment range between 7.5 to 13.2 g’s. I have seen and fixed a couple installations from abroad over the last couple years.

If your vehicle in leaking, it could be causing more damage to it then you think. Other than the obvious signs like your floor being wet or your cup holder or lights are filling up with water causing rust to start on the inside. It can also be sneaking behind an A pillar and running down to your electrical circuitry and fuse panel. I have also seen rust build up to a point on your pinchweld that it can cause your windshield to bend and actually crack.

So we have customers ask if the we get cheap glass, our supplier gets glass that has passed certifications for product quality so it is safe to drive on Canadian highways. In my opinion the installation procedures are way more important to the quality of installation. We guarantee all our workmanship, so if there is over a problem you just bring it back in and our technicians will diagnose the problem.

Service Windshield


Motorbike windscreens are often made of high-impact acrylic plastic that can be molded into shape. They can be installed on a detachable frame that can be removed depending on the use and season. Over time they can get dings and scratches from road sand blasting or just use. New OEM replacements are available from any local bike shop, but if your looking to have a little extra protection you can have one custom made.

We use an uncoated polycarbonate called Lexan and it has a tensile strength of about 9000~9500 PSI and an impact strength of 225~300 ft-lbs/in². Glass also has about 5000~1200 PSI depending on how the glass has been heat treated. It is also thermoformable so we can give it a slight memory once its bent to shape with a little help from heat, but it can also become brittle after being exposed to over 200°F.

NF-2000 is one of the products made by Mitsubishi Gas Chem used buy a variety of motorcycle manufactures and its tensile strength is between 8500~1000 PSI and can be affected negatively after being exposed to temperatures over 200°F as well.



Today at ACE, We had a customer come in and their passenger side floor was damp. We brought it in to do a water leak test on the windshield. There are a couple steps we take to test the potential of water entering through certain spots on the vehicle.

First, we start with a non invasive air test to check for leaks. We do an air test to see if the windshield has any issues with the original installation. I have seen other technicians shortcut job’s, rust perforated through the pinchweld, and the factory robot miss pinch welds all together.

Secondly, we tested the sunroof to find there was a blockage in the sunroof draining system. We try to carefully clear the tubes to not to let the water spill anywhere in the vehicle or disturb the friction fit tubes. Sometimes that does not clear the blockage so the headliner may need to be dropped and the tubes removed completely in order to clear them out.

After completing the 2 air tests, and cleared the debris stuck in the tubes. Now we double check everything for the blockage, now the water seems to run right out the front fenders. We had the vehicle back on the road and leak free the same day!!

Service Windshield


A customer called with a telehandler that was in need of a new door window. The original glass was tempered and was flat but it had holes cut in it for the hinges & handle. This was private machine so they don’t need to pass any safety inspection that requires AS1, AS2, or Tempered Glass tag’s to be present. We decided to use the product called Lexan since it has great tensile & impact strength like some glass, and can be less costly then a new piece of OEM tempered glass from the dealer.

The customer dropped the door that needed to be fixed off at the shop for us to do. We cleaned all the old glass off, and bend the frame slightly to make it straighter. We had to make an original template of the door for close measurements. Trace the new template and cut the new piece out of Lexan then drilled the necessary holes to emulate the past window.

After installation we delivered the door to the site and installed it back onto the original equipment. We were pleased with the job since it was a perfect fit considering the frame was warped. The job was able to be booked and installed all in the same day.

Service Upholstery


We had a customer come in with a pretty beat up headliner. The edges were starting to fall, it was starting to discolor, with water marks near the front ‘A’ pillars. So it was time for a new fresh look in the old truck. We ordered a yard of closely matching material to save from ordering OEM that was more costly. We ended up finding a color that matched some of the accents in the vehicle.

Classic cars can become very tedious removing all the brittle trim without marking or snapping the old plastic. Aswell Some headliners require a window to be removed in order not to crease or fold the fragile shell. After it has been removed we had to take off the old material and rub off the old foam carefully not to wreck the original shell.

This particular job is half of the normal labour time because it’s smaller, has less attachments, and it was easier to remove from the truck. A couple of hours labour to remove, then cleaned and attached the new material. Once we get the headliner reinstalled back into the customer’s vehicle we need to go through it and clean up all the debris that had fallen from removing it.

ACE Auto Glass received a call for mobile service to do an excavator out in Petrolia Township. This job was to clean/remove old glass and to install the new OEM tempered glass. They had a well lit Driveshead we could get the tractor inside if it was raining out.

There are two main sections of an excavator; there is undercarriage and the house where all the glass surrounds the operator. ACE was working on the windshield on the house which can be flat safety glass or tempered glass that ends up being scattered everywhere when broken. We had to safely remove the shattered glass from the pinch weld. We had our Vacuum in the van so we cleaned through the house to attempt to get all the loose glass.

Then we can start with the replacement of the supplied windshield OEM windshield. The client had pre-ordered the new windshield from the dealership and had it delivered to his shop. The client at this Petrolia farm came out and was very pleased and surprised with the job a local company did!

Service Windshield


We had a busy customer that was working in Sarnia that owned a Volkswagen Jetta call in. We were asked if we had a mobile service and where pleased to offer it. There are a couple things to keep in mind when we are booking mobile work.

First, it can’t be raining out! That one is pretty obvious, but the contamination from the rain may affect the way the glue cures after the installation. Second, it can’t get below 0ºC before the safe drive away time. The glue must remain above freezing for the cure time or the glue may not stick from the moisture caused by the reaction. Both reasons can normally be solved buy doing the job inside. One of my most important reasoning for completing the work in house is, it’s easier to try and repair or fix any sort of rust found during the installation with all our tools in the shop.

Once everything is inspected and authorized we head out with our mobile van. Hear we are just double checking the fit of our machine before we start to lay the adhesive. Once we start laying adhesive we only have 7 minutes before it starts to skin over and loose strength in our humid environment. Once the windshield has been installed, it takes 1 hour for our adhesive to safely cure and can be driven away.



We had a gentlemen with an older Mercury Grand Marquis stop buy with a driver door window problem. We brought it in to take a closer look and figure out his problem. Upon further inspection of the window regulators, one was making a crunching noise and the other was no longer operational. We took both of the door panels off to further diagnose the problem. Unfortunately as i assumed the cables had all bunched up in the one cogwheel and bound themselves together.

That was the popping noise we were hearing while the window was moving up and down. The photo above shows the wire that’s all bound up in the cogwheel housing. I put some supports in the door panel to hold the glass from falling down into the door panel or worse until we could get the new parts. We ordered new regulators assemblies and had them installed the very next day.
